Brand Refinement & Squarespace Website
Horsefeathers Hotel is located in the heart of Downtown Hood River. Originally built in 1889, its been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel, while honoring its rich history. Horsefeathers Hotel had a logo they liked, but it needed a little refinement. Wy’east was engaged for brand “refinement” and a website redesign to elevate their online presence to the level of their physical presence.
Its all in the details.
Their logo had many nice qualities and nods to the building history. However, the brand colors felt a little off, it was hard to use at small sizes, the brand icon felt a little too complex and they needed more variations from vertical, horizontal, square and icon options.
We ended up refining the gold to be more of a brushed and elegant old. Simplifying the pegasus details so it was legible at smaller sizes and enlarging in the window frame. We also update the window frame to match a little closer to the icon windows you find at the Horesfeathers hotel.

Brand Elements
Your brand doesn’t end at your logo. A good brand is consistent, flexible and scalable. After we cleaned up the logo, we refined the brand fonts. Wanting it to pair well with the logo type, be legible and available for web. We found a great option from google font, a free font with a serif and san serif option. Horsefeathers worked with photographer Ryan Flood to get professional commercial photos of the newly renovated hotel to use for the website redesign and marketing. We wrapped up this brand refinement with a brand style guide that outlined logo usage, fonts and color palettes.
Why Squarespace?
Squarespace is a perfect option for a small business owner, on a budget. The back end is user friendly and easy to update. Once the website is live, you are able to easily update copy and images on your own without needing to hire someone. It has built in SEO to ensure your website is optimized for search. And finally, is an affordable, secure option for small business owners looking to have a professional web presence.
Customizations
Squarespace is best when you keep customizations to a minimum. That requires custom code, which makes it slightly more difficult for you to update. But thats not to say, we can’t customize smartly depending on what your business needs. Horsefeathers Hotel needed a few custom solutions. We integrated their booking system on the homepage marquee, so a visitor can easily book using their 3rd party plugin. They client also wanted split navigation around the logo for a more elegant touch. We also added in font awesome icons for an extra design touch. There are many well developed third party plugin options to look into if we need a custom solution to a problem within Squarespace.
